Every year, over $1 million dollars in university graduate fellowships is offered to full-time master’s and PhD students to recognize and support their academic excellence. The fellowships are offered to students who have demonstrated superior intellectual ability and academic accomplishment.
Value and duration of UMGF:
UMGF master’s award is valued at $14,000 per year for 12 or 24 months, for up to a total of $28,000.
UMGF doctoral award is valued at $18,000 per year for 12, 24, 36 or 48 months, for up to a total of $72,000.
Departments/units determine the value and duration of an award and applicant must meet the criteria as outlined below.
Eligibility Requirement for UMGF:
- Master of Business Administration (MBA) not eligible,
- Master of Finance (MFin) and Master of Supply Chain Management (MSCM) not eligible.
- Minimum admission GPA of 3.0 or equivalent.
- Candidate must have been admitted to a graduate program at the University of Manitoba as a Master’s or Ph.D. student.
- Pre-master’s and Occasional students are not eligible.
- Not have an active, admission‐related hold on their student account during their provisional admission period.
- Be registered full‐time in a graduate program of study in the unit that recommends them for a UMGF.

Support Period for UMGF:
Here are the number of months of UMGF funding a student can receive. This is based on the number of months they have completed in their program. So, the Total UMGF support per student is not more than 4 years.
